The Thoughts Are Loud But You’re Still in Charge

Our mind is not always a peaceful place. Some days it’s like a radio that won’t turn off, playing every worst-case scenario, every awkward moment, every to-do list item we forgot, on repeat.
I used to think the goal was to control all of that. To have only “good” thoughts. But I’ve learned that’s not how it works. The mind does what the mind does. It thinks. Sometimes it spirals. Sometimes it fixates.
What’s changed is how I respond. I don’t follow every thought like it’s a command. I don’t believe every anxious story it tells. I’ve learned to pause, take a breath, and remind myself: just because I think something doesn’t mean it’s true.
Peace, for me, looks more like watching the storm clouds roll through without trying to stop the sky from turning gray. I let them pass. And they do.
So if your thoughts feel heavy today, know this: you are still here. Still steady. Still you. You don’t have to fight your thoughts. Just don’t hand them the keys.
