Show Up First

For a long time I thought I needed to feel calm first. That meditation would come easy once I already felt peaceful. But it's the other way around. You show up. You sit. You come back to your breath even on the hard days, especially on the hard days. And that act of just showing up, over and over, is what slowly makes the calm possible.
The next time you feel like you are not in the right state to meditate, try sitting for just a minute anyway. Let showing up be enough.
