Not a Test

For a long time, sitting down to meditate felt like a test I kept failing… There is no passing. There is no failing. There is only sitting down, noticing, and coming back.

For a long time, sitting down to meditate felt like a test I kept failing. Too distracted. Too restless. Not calm enough afterward. What I didn’t understand is that meditation was never a test. There is no passing. There is no failing. There is only sitting down, noticing, and coming back. The moment I stopped grading myself, the practice finally had room to work.

Meditation can start to feel like a test when you are constantly measuring how well you are doing. Letting go of that scorekeeping can make space for the simple rhythm of noticing and coming back.
